What is your vision statement for your major project?
My vision is to create a website aggregating community health resources covering a wide spectrum of health needs.
What ideas do you have for your major project?
Would like to compile and categorize as many health resources as possible in an accessible way. Do not want to limit scope of resource, or who is providing resource. So, including small businesses (such as Detroit Community Acupuncture for instance; or Nature's Product, an eastside apothecary), individuals (massage therapists, energy workers), groups (the doula collective and other reproductive health groups, or perhaps the new restorative justice center at St. Peter's church), and non-profits (Ruth Ellis Center, or Aids Partnership of Michigan for example). Would like to include health resources that are accessible (transportation, financial, emotional/cultural/environmental access -- so fostering safe spaces, and so forth). Also would like to create forum spaces for folks to skill-share, ride-share, and possibly post about existing and emerging support groups/networks.
What are you planning to investigate and how does it support your vision of Detroit’s Future?
I'm planning to investigate, in a collaborative project, access -- or lack of access -- to health resources that meet community health needs. Personal and organizational health (physical, emotional, etc.) play a huge role in my vision for Detroit's future, in terms of support systems that promote and identify shared and collective healing, and in terms of recognizing the many tools that already and exist and that we all carry to heal ourselves. This is incredibly empowering.
What media skills do you need/want for to complete your major project?
I need design and web skills.
